With beautiful freshwater sources originating from the Rocky Mountains, Grande Cache features several great fishing spots. Our lakes are full of fish, but so are our creeks, where fly-fishers come for some of the best fly-fishing in the province. You can also try your hand at ice fishing when the lake freezes during the winter. Licenses are available in town.

On the Water: Rafting, Canoeing and Kayaking

See Grande Cache from a different perspective: This area is rich with navigable rivers ranging from easy class 1 stretches to wild class 5 white water rapids. Take a white water rafting or kayak/canoe tour for a unique look at the area around Grande Cache.

Golfing

The Grande Cache Golf and Country Club boasts a spectacular nine-hole course set against the gorgeous backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. The course features rolling fairways bordered by pine and spruce, where you are very likely to see Bald and Golden Eagles. There is a driving range and putting green, as well as rentals available. The clubhouse also has a licensed dining lounge to enjoy.

Jasper National Park

If you’re into a short road trip, you can take in the gorgeous landscape of Jasper National Park, just a two-hour drive of the Grande Cache Inn & Suites, where you can explore the glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, hot springs and wildlife that make this region an iconic Canadian destination.

Willmore Wilderness Park

Adjacent to Jasper National Park, Willmore Wilderness Park features 4.600 square kilometres of wilderness, with several walking/hiking trails, as well as some great opportunities for hunting and fishing.

Annual Events In Grande Cache

The Canadian Death Race, a true test of physical and mental endurance, is an ultra marathon held annually in Grande Cache. Elite athletes from across the world participate in this 125 km race that must be completed in 24 hours. The route takes competitors through a tortuous course that includes bogs, forests, three mountain summits and several rivers, and crosses several mountain crests with a total elevation gain of 17,000 feet.

Death Fest

This killer festival is a whole lot of family-friendly fun, with inflatables, games, bumper balls, vendors and a farmers’ market. Happening every year in August, Death Fest brings a carnival atmosphere to Grande Cache’s Central Park, and closes out with a killer Sunday night concert.

Sulphur Gates

In the Canadian Rockies, adventure is everywhere. Right here in Grande Cache, the Sulphur Gates is one of the most popular regional attractions, featuring a dramatic cliff-edged meeting of two great rivers: The Smoky and the Sulphur. With a short hiking trail taking you to several viewpoint areas along the cliffs, you can also enjoy a picnic while taking in the views.
